On occasion of World Hearing Day 2025, the European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (EHIMA) joins the World Health Organization (WHO) in raising awareness of the importance of hearing care and early intervention in hearing loss.
Under this year’s theme, “Changing mindsets: Empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all,” WHO calls on everyone to “take steps today to ensure good hearing health throughout life.” Together, WHO and EHIMA emphasize the critical role of early diagnosis, professional medical and audiological treatment, and access to hearing technology in improving quality of life worldwide.
Hearing loss is a growing global health challenge, affecting over 1.5 billion people, with nearly 430 million experiencing disabling hearing loss, according to WHO. Despite the availability of advanced hearing solutions, many individuals do not seek help in time, leading to avoidable social, cognitive, and economic onsequences.
Arnd Kaldowski, President of EHIMA, stressed the urgency of proactive hearing care, stating:
“On World Hearing Day 2025, EHIMA stands with WHO in calling for greater public awareness and access to hearing care solutions. Hearing health is essential to overall well-being, and timely intervention can transform lives. We urge policymakers, healthcare professionals, and individuals to recognize the importance of
hearing care and ensure that those in need have access to effective hearing solutions.”
EHIMA advocates for policies that enhance access to hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive technologies. Through its portal hearingyou.org, the association provides a broad range of relevant information on ways to prevent of hearing loss, the benefits of timely hearing care and offers online-hearing
checks.
On this World Hearing Day, EHIMA reaffirms its commitment to working with global stakeholders to ensure that hearing care becomes an integral part of public health strategies. By acting now, societies can reduce the financial burden caused by untreated hearing loss and improve the quality of life for millions.
